Des cheurros sans machine

Churros are traditional Spanish pastries, also claimed by Portugal and China, often associated in France with funfairs. They consist of a light dough made from water and flour, shaped into long strips, then fried and coated with sugar.

Some French chefs, such as Alain Ducasse and Jean-François Piège, have incorporated churros into their menus, accompanying them with various sauces like chocolate or salted butter caramel.

To prepare churros without a machine, here's a simple recipe:

Ingredients for 4 people:

300 g of flour

70 g of powdered sugar

45 cl of water

1 tablespoon of sugar

Frying oil

Necessary equipment:

Piping bag with a star-shaped nozzle

Deep frying pan

Spatula or wooden spoon

Preparation:

1. Heat the oil in a deep frying pan.

2. In a bowl, mix the flour and sugar.

3. Bring the water to a boil, then gradually incorporate it into the flour-sugar mixture until a homogeneous dough is obtained.

4. Fill a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped nozzle with the dough.

5. Above the frying pan, press the piping bag to form strips of dough about 1 cm in diameter and 10 cm in length, letting them fall directly into the hot oil.

6. Fry the churros for about 2 minutes, until they are golden brown.

7. Drain them on absorbent paper.

8. Sprinkle them with powdered sugar before enjoying.

For an extra indulgence, you can dip your churros in homemade chocolate sauce or caramel.
